Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack – Trouble Sleeping? [a Rekapper Review]

Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack‘s latest album – Trouble Sleeping? .  This release really sticks out as being something of a professional manner, obviously being his best release to date.  Available to download through Bandcamp, iTunes, Beatport, Amazon, Amazon.jp and Spotify

01. Hardlines Out – starts with a nice guitar twang, and shifting of into the more glitchier side of WGWGSA.  His voice being the cleanest of any of his tracks yet for sure helps out on the album.  All at the same time he manages to give it this feeling that he’s a true Texan artist.
02. Other Sun – he features a “The Hai” famed artist Snailhead (who I also featured in this article at inb4track http://inb4track.wordpress.com/2011/12/13/snailhead-the-image/ ), in a glitchy rock mix that keeps the tempo driving just hard enough to keep your foot tapping and perfect for driving music.
03. Eraenwes – is one of my favorite themed tracks on this album, I was not able to put my finger down on what it was exactly, but it really reminds me of a song for a Mario game, at least the lead synth combination, from a desert level of sorts.
04. 2nd Sun-Stationary Sun – has that perfect feel of being a Water Gun patented length track that was missing on the album up until this track, with steady builds throughout the track and significant changes in the patterns throughout the track.
05. This track features mattir (which I mentioned his album Otter here http://rekapper.com/2012/07/17/mattir-otter/ ) another great “The Hai” artist.  This track really showcases what can be done between two glitch artists fighting a war against each other, in fact I keep on hearing rumors that they are doing a split ep.  But this track is arguably the loudest track on the album when I did the original mastering of the album, but in the end was nicely leveled out to fit the rest of the album.
06. Trouble Sleeping – this track is the radio hit of this album, it stands out as being a great combination between his drawn out reverb heavy drums, his crisp and clean voice,  and nice warm guitar tone.  It really hits solidly with the tasteful add-in of synths.
07. Guts of the World – from my understanding this was originally going to be the title to this glorious album, it’s got nice interplay between the synths the driving rock drums and his voice.  Despite him disliking this comparison, everytime I listen to this track it really reminds me of Radiohead’s -Bodysnatchers rocking hard track, that have a math rock feel but keep pushing the boundaries.  But with Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack, he really jumps past that point of build ups and drops.
08. Makes a Run For It – This track is a great build up for the next track the title really describes it, fast uptempo driving, and then it suddenly, (well I won’t spoil every thing for you).
09. Thescape/1st Sun/Original Sun – Listen to it yourself, but this is my favorite two tracks on the album, it took me a few times to mix between the timing of the overlay for mastering and transition on this track, but I think it really hits the spot.  It really is the perfect album end-er that makes you listen to it over and over again.

Mastering by Rekapper (myself)  Overall I throughly enjoyed the album, and it was a lot of fun to master it for Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack, lots of credit to him for this great album!
