Throwback Tuesday – Gang Starr – Guru and DJ Premier

This week’s Throwback Tuesday features Gang Starr the duo of Guru and DJ Premier

Gang starr – Royalty

That video for sure sums up the hippest of the hoppest royalty beats that Primo could produce showcasing Latimore‘s – “Let’s Do It in Slow Motion” being slightly sped up on the early on samples of the track and then crisp vinyl scratch.  It also helped for sure that Guru has always been a grand master of rapping lyrics and flow.

FK – DWYCK remix

While this isn’t the original at all, FK really does a great job at remixing that original DJ Premier beat and working it out into a more electronic dance like track then the original.  This track is just full of flavoring of modern and old hiphop sounds.

Rekapper – Chaos X Overcircle (feat. Guru & Riow Arai)

One of the original remixes I did in fact one of the first songs I mashed up.  In typical fashion, I only figured out these two tracks worked so precisely together when accidentally listening to both of them at the same time, between my desktop and it’s sets of monitors and my laptop.

Japan Saturdays – FOGPAK 10 [Review]

Checkout this new release from FOGPAK is a collection of great indie j-pop and EDM groups, often full of lush and busy music, perfect for a slow laid-back mixtape or djmix.

This album being FOGPAK #10 showcasing a more dancier side and funkier side of tunes. Tracks such as Tomggg’s ラブリーサマーちゃん – あなたは煙草 わたしはシャボン (Tomggg Remix)  as I’ve written about Tomggg before.  It also includes lots of fun summer tunes and hidden deeper cuts.  All for the typical bandcamp rate of name your price.  Full of those glitched out wild mix of vocal cuts and crafty lyrics.  Theres tracks on here like Rhytone – Fruit Killer in which entirely have the flavorings of Katamari Damacy and the best of Namco’s game music all themed under “Best Summer Ever”.  The darker cuts consist of quite dramitic chord changes which I can only wonder how that would be the best summer ever, but still consist of complex complete rhythems such as yuLLiPPe’s – Sea Side Hotel or Chanbe’s – サモトラケ.  There’s even exceptionally great rap and hiphop tracks on the second half of the album such as NO.A – Summer Endless (prod. Mellow-D).  And tracks like Fireworks where it easily reminds you of Hydeout Productions oriented beats.   As google translate suggest, they are open for submissions via contacting them on twitter. Uyama Hiroto – One Day | In The Sea [Single] – Freedom Of The Son

Uyama Hiroto has released another single on vinyl 45rpm format and digital release over on Roph Recordings’ bandcamp: https://rophrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/one-day

The vinyl seems to be limited format before it sells out although they do seem to have it over on Roph’s site: Roph.net   and likely it will be sold on tribe hydeout productions website, and tower records over in japan.

This is sort of a reworks of A Prayer for Love and Peace, but I would guess that the upcoming album Freedom Of The Son will be everything we have been hoping for, this track is very much so what I’ve been waiting forever to come out of a Hydeout Productions artist.  This track specifically One Day sort of showcases in every way how great Uyama Hiroto ‘s first album was and still is.  It also seems to have those same styling you would have heard on a Nujabes beat.  Factoring that this is a single off of the new album, expect more music like this upcoming, and I hope this contributes to hearing more artists produce music like this too in a Jazzy, Hiphop way.  So let that sax man shine his tune, and hopefully his next album releases in full soon enough :)  Updates to come as soon as I find more information.

The Hai Thursday – Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack – I Don’t Know What You’re Worried About

THT – The Hai Thursday is a new series available here at http://rekapper.com

This The Hai Thursday features Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack‘s latest album titled:

“I Don’t Know What You’re Worried About”

1. Snarl Hideout:

While Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack starts the album on Buddy on his bandcamp, the true great starting track is Snarl Hideout. This is clearly a pun on the amount snare fusion and mashup of glorious sounds to give it that nice super tight snap across most of the percussion to even cause problems for Venetian Snares.  Ultimately this track is the true summer opener with it’s vast amount of quick but pop-ish breakdowns and light electric beach rock driven guitar work in showcasing his inner Texan or Beach Boys.  The bells and the chimes add a great variety of texture on top of the already pleasant drum work to make this the song thick and lush, but it is for sure a track where the mp3-120kbps version doesn’t cut it in the streaming version compared to the full flac.

2. No Fun:

This track is the perfect reminder that no fun should be allow, whether it is in the lyrics or in the melody or in the drum lines, because this is an all serious production.   Who am I kidding… No Fun has the funkiest combination of synths and guitar parts that make it entirely driving music something to enjoy why on the long summer night drive as the sun is setting on the beach side.  No further spoilers on this track allow, go listen to it.
